Challenge
This project saw PUDLO working with Tolent Construction and 4D Structures who were responsible for creating luxury apartments for students in the heart of Leeds. The creation of these apartments required the services of PUDLO

Solution
PUDLO were involved during the early design stages and liaised with all parties to provide a solution suitable to all. On-site QA allowed PUDLO to design and provide a Grade-3 environment using the combined protection of Type A & B products. This would essentially provide a grade-3 waterproof environment on a steep sloping site with large retaining walls.
A combination of PUDLO CWP, PUDLO BW, PUDLO Self Seal was used for a double-storey retaining wall, stepped retaining wall and slab throughout.
Unusually, the project called for softs joints at the junction of slab and wall. Numerous soft movement joints were needed in fact so MPS Concrete Services, sister-brand to PUDLO, was called in to install bandage details.

Result
The extra work was also able to be included in the overall 30-year warranty which PUDLO was able to provide, backed up by DB Group.
Set amongst a number of student accommodation blocks along Burley Street and Burley Road in Leeds, this building for student accommodation is designed in a āUā shape around a south-facing garden. The garden is raised above street level to create an oasis, isolated from the road noise and fumes below. At street level is a retail unit and large communal lounge for residents. The development also provides a gym and multi-function room which can be used as a cinema. A 2-storey brick podium accommodates the slope of the site between Burley Street and Park Lane and provides a base on which the rest of the development sits. Zinc clad blocks rise up from this base. In keeping with its surroundings, the building is 7-storeys at its highest point.
