Challenge

This project was a £75 million residential scheme, boasting 593 apartments and townhouses, a contrast of city and country living. Situated on the bank of the beautiful River Irwell, PUDLO was required to ensure the waterproofing of the project was completed to perfection.

Solution

With its riverside location, choosing the right waterproofing solution was of paramount importance for this development. Around 6,500m3 of PUDLO waterproof concrete was used to construct the basement car park and lift pits, with a movement joint also being incorporated into the structure.

Matt Surgey, Commercial Manager for David Ashley Construction Ltd, commented on PUDLO’s involvement, “We were really pleased with how the PUDLO team contributed to the waterproofing element of the project. They provided us with bespoke drawings and discussed with us the best way to approach this part of the construction to comply with the criteria of Premier Guarantee.”

Result

Adelphi Wharf is in the heart of an area galvanised by both a rising population and regeneration, but its countryside appeal is not lost thanks to endless views of the river and meadows.

The rear wings of each phase rise dramatically from ground level and meet the river with breath-taking cantilevered overhangs, supported by a procession of immense structural columns. The uppermost levels incorporate communal, landscaped terraces commanding panoramic views of both the riverside and the Salford and Manchester skyline.

Adelphi Wharf provides a residential retreat on the banks of the beautiful River Irwell less than half a mile from Manchester city centre, offering an unrivalled location.
